some people were wondering if i had fallen off the face of the earth
the answer is.... practically!
summary of what happened in april: it sucked. i interviewed for a gsb position (director of info tech). government elections were scandalous (minor things like the election code being voted in the day before elections and not being signed and disqualifying individuals after the election is over and results are in and subsequent law suits, which i had the ultimate pleasure of preparing - as the government bitch aka secretary) and ended with a law suit during dead week - the week before finals. the veishea float took so much work it wasn't funny but it was so worth it because we got three awards, the least of which being the grand marshal's pick (not bad for a first-time org, eh?). my grandmother's already bad health went downhill and i tried to visit her as much as i could but she died the day before the veishea parade, so i was doing family stuff then and she was buried during dead week. i wrote a 30 pg research paper for philo in about three days and got a 28/30 on it, but i think he felt sorry for me. the last saturday of april, my godson's mother died very unexpectedly and en route to the hospital, so they had to autopsy etc before they could bury her. i turned down three offers for internships (nasa, a tx research place, and the navy).
summary of may: i rearranged my finals sechedule to go to my godson's mother's funeral. i took my finals cold. i held him and my sister dury the funeral. i drove back to ames to take a final after the dinner, after which i finished a group project that was due the next day. the group project was the best in the class - only one to reach all of the goals. moved back to my parents'. worked 10 hr days 5 days a week for my parents at minimum wage. went back to school to finish up government stuff before turning in my keys. went back the next day to help move my bestest male friend from school to california. packed up the bedroom that i'd lived in for 15 yrs to move to the guest room, still working insane hours. packed up to go to france. went to france. breathed for the first time in two months.
summary of june thus far: took french courses. passed, despite being put in the intermediate level with no french. can speak to shopkeepers and toddlers, hey it's an improvement. took french culture courses. passed. met cute boys and macked on them. learned how to cook from a married local. travelled all over france. chilled in the mountains. my tech courses start next week. sat back, relaxed, stayed the hell away from computers for the most part. redesigned the fug website, mostly, but it hasn't been implemented. still haven't gotten my last paycheck. still haven't heard about the IT position, despite several requests for status of application (even if they say "fer gods sake we havent decided). found a job for the fall. found an apartment. life is good. oh, been fighting my grade for the class with that evil project because he 'forgot' 25 (out of a possible 240) points and then subsequently removed himself from the university.

it is over
her last words to me will be with me always, i'm sure
it was, after all, the first time she had said those words to me, though i had never doubted the emotion.
"hon-ney," she said, in her tired old voice, stopping to get a breath after every syllable or two, "i love you. give your nana a kiss and off with you... don't want you to see me like this... member me, hon-ney..."
